When a patient decides to undergo a breast augmentation, they need to decide what the size of the augmentation and the type of augmentation.

The decision to perform a sub-muscular (under the muscle) or sub-glandular (under the breast tissue) augmentation is based on many factors. This may include a patient’s preference and their unique anatomy.

Regardless of the type of breast augmentation performed by a surgeon, it will come with pros and cons. For some surgeons, they may prefer sub-muscular breast augmentations. This type of augmentation has less chance of a patient either seeing or feeling the breast implant.

Another benefit of sub-muscular augmentation is it decreases the risk of breast implant hardening (encapsulation or scar tissue formation). Sub-muscular breast augmentation interferes less with the performance of a mammography than a sub-glandular breast augmentation.

Patients who have their implants inserted underneath the muscle have also communicated a greater sense of comfort and natural feel. This is because when a patient feels their breasts, they are actually holding their own muscle, tissue, and glands, offering a very natural and comfortable look and feel. This can also help patients achieve their final cosmetic goals in a shorter period of time.
While evaluating the differences in breast augmentation surgical procedures, there tends to be a preference to perform the sub-muscular augmentation in the cosmetic surgery community. The end result for the patients will come with fewer complications and a better aesthetic. Both of these are always highly desired by patients.

Breast Sizes

After the decision to perform either a sub-muscular or sub-glandular breast augmentation has been settled, another important decision is the breast size that a patient desires. This is always a very personal decision.

Many times, the patient wants to achieve a “natural look” to improve the proportionality of their upper and lower body. For some, they may want a “round” appearance. When undergoing such a cosmetic procedure, it is possible to have much larger breasts and dress appropriately if it is important to not flaunt the fact that an augmentation was completed. It is helpful to share your goals and personality with your cosmetic surgeon. It is also advised to find a cosmetic surgeon who also takes the time to learn about your needs and goals.

Pictures of desired breast sizes from magazines can help open a dialogue between the patient and the surgeon. Often discussing “cup size” is useful but should not be looked at as a universal standard for measurement or augmentation outcome. Cup size also is dependent on the manufacturer and can vary. Patients need to be aware of these differences and take them into account.
Ask many questions, understand the history and success of your cosmetic surgeon, and enjoy the exciting body transformation.

Worldwide, women who have underdeveloped breasts dream of large and firm breasts. They are afraid of surgeries, quite understandably, because of the pain and process involved. They resort to the painless and inexpensive method of breast enlargement in the shape of capsules, creams, and serums, even injections at times. These methods, however, successful, bring a lot of adverse effects with them, which might damage the mammary glands or underlying tissue of the breasts. These methods can also cause adverse effects on lactating mothers and can prove to be dangerous to the baby as well. Hence, these are not at all recommended.

Breasts show off a woman’s personality. Rightly-sized firm breasts are sign of confidence. Underdeveloped breasts and flat-chested women are never preferred when it comes to doing few things and jobs. It is the time when they feel embarrassed and wish of large and tighter breasts. Large and tauter breasts are the demand of the hour and many industries. Better breasts give you a better stance and big boost in confidence.

There are different herbs like Pueraria mirifica, saw palmetto, fenugreek, fennel, blessed thistle, Zingiber officinale roscoe, Piper chaba hunt, Caesalpinia sappan linn, etc. that help in natural growth and enhancement of breasts in females. These natural substances catalyze the natural hormones and enhance their effect, thereby giving the desired effect.

There are many formulations available in the market with different mixture quantities of these natural herbs, from different herbal formulation manufacturers, in different forms. These products prove to be highly efficient and effective, and do not have any adverse or side effects on the hormonal cycle or overall body. Regular intake of these herbs promotes natural growth of breasts and does not damage any mammary gland or any other part of the body, thereby making overall process very natural. In addition to enhancement of breasts, they provide firmness to it, and enhance lactation in lactating mothers.

With these herbal capsules and pills, women world-over can have larger and tauter breasts without any fear of side effects or adverse effects. These herbs have proved to be a blessing for flat-chested women and females with small or underdeveloped breasts. Now your husband or boyfriend would not look at any other females’ breasts!

Symptoms of Inflammatory breast cancer are different from the routine kinds of breast cancers that we generally see. Most patients with present with a lump that they feel in their breasts or an abnormal mammogram. Rarely, they present with an abnormal breast ultrasound or an abnormal MRI scan. Inflammatory breast cancers are unique and are a challenge to both patients and most primary care physicians which many times leads to delay in the diagnosis and treatment of such patients.

The symptoms of inflammatory breast cancers typically mimic an infection of the involved breast, also called mastitis. It is easy to attribute the changes of redness, swelling, pain and bloody nipple discharge as being due to an infection. It is common knowledge that cancers of the breasts are painless, so when these painful symptoms are felt by the patient, they feel reassured that they are not dealing with breast cancer. Many primary care physicians usually go along with the diagnosis of mastitis and prescribe several trials of antibiotics. Weeks go by while the pain and swelling continue to worsen to a point when a surgical opinion is obtained.

Examination of the breast that would lead to a suspicion of inflammatory breast cancer include

1. Diffuse redness with the skin having an orange peel appearance in texture and thickness. This is attributed to the involvement of cancer cells below the skin of the breast.

2. A mass within the breast may not be felt.

3. The breast is extremely tender and painful.

4. Bloody nipple discharge and retraction of the nipple is seen often.

5. Enlarged lymph nodes in the arm pit area.

The definitive way of confirming inflammatory breast cancer is through a surgical biopsy and confirmation of the diagnosis in a pathology lab.

Do all patients with inflammatory changes in their breast be worried about Inflammatory Breast Cancer?

The resounding answer is..NO! Infections of the breast are fairly common especially in lactating mothers. A short trial of antibiotics should be tried initially as well as local care such as warm compresses. If the symptoms do not subside within a few days, the patients should be evaluated very quickly by a qualified surgeon for further evaluation. Remember, the incidence of inflammatory breast cancers is only 2 to 5% of all breast cancer that are diagnosed at any given time. So, they are NOT very common.

Women need to be aware of this entity and take appropriate action while not forgetting that mammograms, breast self exams and regular medical check ups are still the key to early detection and better cure rates for cancer of the breast.

Skin is the largest organ in human body. Naturally fresh and healthy skin is protector of body and a thing of beauty. Texts of Ayurveda recommend many herbs and natural remedies to protect our skin from acne, pimple, scars, marks and wrinkles. These herbs and herbal remedies not only help in the above mentioned conditions but also effective in other skin ailments like psoriasis, eczema etc.

Structure of skin:

It is essential to know about structure of skin before analyzing the causes which make changes on skin. Skin is made up of multiple layers of epithelial tissues. Microscopic section of the skin shows two distinct parts. Epidermis is the top most layer. The upper layer of epidermis contains dead cells which gradually cast off. These cells are gradually replaced by fresh new cells produced by basal layer which is the lower layer of epidermis.

The Dermis lies below epidermis and consists of net work of collagen fibers which is responsible for elastic properties of skin. Sebaceous glands associated with hair follicles and sweat glands, are all present in dermis and get blood supply from the subcutaneous tissue present below dermis. Sebaceous glands get activated during puberty and produce oil like substance called sebum.

According to ayurveda acharya Sushruta, the skin has seven layers. These layers when get affected by imbalanced doshas (vital energetic forces of body) give rise to different skin diseases.

Herbs like tulsi, neem, saffron, turmeric, sandal wood, amla etc help to keep the skin healthy and disease free. Here is the list of benefits these herbs provide.

Tulsi: Tulsi helps in many skin disorders. It is effective in skin rashes, insect bites and itching. Leaves of this plant are effectively used in ring worm infections and lucoderma. Paste and Juice of Tulsi leaves help to reduce acne, pimples and scars.

Neem: The neem is proved to be beneficial in treating skin diseases because of its antibiotic, antifungal and blood purifying properties. According to ayurveda principles vitiated Kapha and pitta cause skin diseases. Neem pacifies vitiated kapha and pitta, thus helps to cure skin ailments. It promotes wound healing as it is antibacterial and astringent. In psoriasis it reduces itching, irritation, roughness of skin and heals the psoriatic patches. In same way it heals eczema too. It reduces infection and inflammation of acne. Neem helps to maintain the health of scalp skin and prevents dandruff.

The combination of neem and tulsi help immensely to control diseases of skin.

Saffron: Saffron helps to reduce dark pigments, dark circles under eyes, acne and pimple. It helps to increase fairness and glow of skin.

Turmeric: Blood nourishes the skin and it is known fact that pure blood always keeps the skin glowing and radiant. Turmeric purifies blood, nourishes skin and gives it a healthy natural glow and radiance. A traditional face pack of India consists of gram flour, pure turmeric powder, milk and honey. This reduces inflammation of skin, acne, pimples and prevents many skin ailments. This pack prevents formation of wrinkles.

Sandal wood: Sandalwood has many antimicrobial properties. Ayurveda acharyas recommend use of sandal wood as a part of natural skin care regimes to heal and soothe many skin ailments and conditions. One of the primary uses of this wonder herb is that it can kill germs, soothe inflamed skin, and clear blemishes left even by stubborn acne. Regular use of sandalwood helps to get clean and clear skin.

Kumkumadi Lepam is an authentic ayurvedic preparation for acne, pimple, dark circles, pigments, scars and marks

Amla: The juice of amla fruit reduces burning sensation of skin. It strengthens the hair follicles and reduces the inflammation of scalp skin. Amla boosts immunity of skin and helps to prevent acne and pimples.

As your daughter hits puberty and become a teenager, facial skin care becomes a very important factor for them and it can affect their self-esteem.

Tweens (12) and young teens (13-15) today, are using makeup more and more. As a mom it is important to reiterate less is more and classy is not trashy. Obviously, every parent has their own rules and some may not allow their teenage daughters to wear makeup while others do. We did not allow ours to wear it until she was 14-and even then, it was VERY light and no mascara until she was 16! If you allow your daughter to wear make up, it is important to teach them HOW to wear it, and take care of their skin.

Teenager girls love to share things-especially clothes and makeup. Make sure they learn not to share makeup and to always use clean applicators when applying it. Keep with the rule of no double dipping as that will contaminate the product and could cause eye infections.

Teenage skin can change dramatically as they head deeper and deeper into puberty. Their skin becomes oilier and pimples start appearing. Although it’s normal for teens to go through this phase, it’s embarrassing to many and it lowers their self-esteem and causes self-consciousness.

Facial skin care tips to prevent pimples and keep your teenage daughter’s skin looking great

It’s never a good idea to pop pimples because it can cause deeper problems like infection and scarring. Popping pimples will aggravate the skin more and will be more noticeable than if you left it alone.

Wash your face at least twice a day with a facial cleanser and warm water. Use circular motions with your fingertips and don’t apply a lot of pressure. Avoid scrubbing the face as it’ll damage and irritate the skin.

Always remove makeup before going to bed.

Avoid touching your face with your hands. Your nails can harbor a lot of germs and if you’re picking your face, you can spread bacteria.

Keep your hair clean and away from your face. Oils and dirt in your hair can clog your skin.

Protect your face from the sun. Use a moisturizer that also contains SPF. For some teens, the sun can make the acne worse.

Watch what you eat and drink. Junk foods or certain foods and soda can trigger pimple outbreaks. Drink more water as it flushes out the bad stuff in your body.

Protecting your skin from the sun is one of the very most important aspects of any anti-aging skin care routine. It is the one essential that if ignored can completely mitigate all of your other healthy choices. Unfortunately, keeping your skin safe from the sun is a little more difficult than many realize.

There are two types of ultraviolet rays that effect your skin – UVA and UVB. In the past we thought UVB was really the only UV ray that caused any danger as it is what causes the burning of the skin. People thought that the more prevalent (up to 40x more prevalent) UVA ray was of little concern. Due to this, many sunscreens were designed only to be effective against UVB rays.

Now we realize that it is actually the UVA ray that is more damaging. While UVB can give the skin a superficial burn on the top layers, UVA actually penetrate much deeper and are responsible for the majority of skin aging. They have also been shown to be directly related to the development of skin cancer. The use of tanning beds, which use primarily UVA rays, have been shown to dramatically increase a persons risk of developing skin cancer.

UVA unlike UVB are also able to easily penetrate windows, and are equally powerful at all hours of sunlight throughout the day.

So, how do we mitigate the effects of ultraviolet rays?

The best option is to try to avoid the sun as much as possible. If you will be outside, a large brimmed hat and long sleeves are a must. Sunscreen is also great, but one must ensure that they are using a natural sunscreen with physical blocking agents such titanium dioxide or zinc dioxide. The majority of sunscreens (pretty much everything you find in most stores besides the natural grocers) instead use a harmful chemical blocking agent called oxybenzone. Oxybenzone is a hormone blocker that has direct links to cancer. Another nasty thing featured in many unnatural sunscreens is the paraben. Parabens, like oxybenzone, have hormone mimicking capabilities, and have been linked to breast cancer and other diseases.

Using a topical skin care product such as a serum with vitamin C is a great idea. Vitamin C, when applied to the skin, can have a profound effect at mitigating UV generated skin damage. Look for a serum or cream that also features vitamin E, as this will further increase the protective properties of the product.

If you will be spending a fair amount of time outside, stay away from skin care products with vitamin A. While vitamin A can help heal sun damage, it does leave the skin more sensitive, so it is often an ingredient better utilized in the winter when you will not be outside as much.

The number one thing you can do for your skin is to avoid too much sun. This one action alone can do remarkable things for the appearance and health of your skin.

Many men, especially those over the age of 45, are becoming more concerned about their prostate health. In fact, one in six men in the United States will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. Protecting and preserving prostate health is no small feat, however, many options exist today that can promote prostate health without a multitude of unpleasant and unnecessary side effects. For instance, a new study shows that simply walking can greatly benefit prostate health. Exercise has long been shown to promote vitality, especially since it boosts the immune system, but this new study shows that walking at a brisk or vigorous pace inhibited unhealthy prostate conditions by up to 61 percent!

The experiment studied 1,455 men with prostate cancer. Erin L. Richman, MD, of the Harvard School of Public Health and fellow researchers found that men who walked briskly for three hours per week or more, had a 57 percent lower rate of progression than men who walked at a leisurely pace for less than three hours a week. They also found that men who exercised more vigorously experienced a 61 percent decrease in death from prostate cancer. Dr Richman concluded that the results, “…suggest significant clinical benefits of brisk walking for men….” The researchers observed that many men battling prostate cancer may not engage in much exercise. However, as many studies continue to show, simply moving the body enough to get your heart rate up, as occurs with walking, is highly beneficial and may actually help to fight prostate cancer, as well as other types of cancer.

When we exercise, even for a short time, a wealth of positive reactions occurs within the body. But the benefits of exercise aren’t just physical. They are also mental, emotional and even spiritual. Mind-body exercises, such as yoga or Tai-chi, can help to relieve stress, anxiety and occasional depression associated with illness, as well as providing a good workout!

Common-sense strategies for cancer prevention, such as eating vegetables and exercising, are still some of the most effective tools we have to take control of our own health. Take care of yourself by nourishing your body with natural ingredients. Nature offers us not only sustenance, but powerful compounds now recognized by science to promote health, such as antioxidants and polyphenols. Today, more and more doctors are recommending natural ingredients found in plants, herbs, and some vegetables that can greatly support prostate health.

Herbal supplements that contain scientifically-researched nutrients, medicinal mushrooms, minerals, and botanicals from both traditional herbal medicine and modern western medicine are highly effective for improving prostate health and preventing the onset of cancer. Key natural extracts proven to support prostate health include a highly bio-available form of turmeric root, saw palmetto berry, grape skin, pomegranate, pumpkin seed, pygeum bark, sarsaparilla root, green tea, Japanese knotweed, and stinging nettle.

Another powerful ingredient for promoting prostate health is 3,3′-diinodolymethane (DIM). DIM is the biologically active ingredient derived from broccoli and research has demonstrated its benefits on cellular health and hormone balance. DIM promotes the excretion of both excess estrogen and xenoestrogens (potent estrogen-like compounds which are of special concern in prostate health). In addition, antioxidants and nutrients such as vitamin C, vitamin D3, selenium, and natural polyphenols including quercetin, resveratrol, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) from green tea, and ellagic acid from pomegranate are also beneficial for preventing the growth of harmful cancer cells.

You likely know of someone who was or is stricken with prostate cancer. A friend probably. Or a friend of friend you play poker with. Or even somebody closer to you like your cousin or uncle. That’s certainly not surprising given that prostate cancer is a fairly common disease. It strikes tens of thousands of guys each year. And more than 30,000 men die of it annually, making it the second most common cause of cancer death in men in the United States.

On the brighter side though, cancer of the prostate is highly curable. In fact it’s 100% curable. But there’s a catch to get that kind of cure rate. That happens if and only if the cancer has been diagnosed early and that it’s classified as an early staged cancer. Which means that the cancer cells are still locally found in the prostate region and that they have not yet spread into other parts of the body.

Still as the ever so common saying goes, prevention is still better than cure. Because not all cancers are caught early. So not all victims enjoy such high cure rates.

How do we prevent cancer of the prostate then? Well, a lot of studies have been conducted and the results were often contradictory. But on a whole, prostate cancer prevention basically involves doing anything that improves your overall health.

High risk patients have to take this matter seriously though. Since they are the ones who are most likely to develop the cancer. Who are these men?

Men aged 65 years old and above. The risk of developing prostate cancer increases with age. But debates are now going on whether treatment is necessary if this cancer is diagnosed in older men. Most prostate cancer cases are actually slow growing. That means these men are even more likely to die of reasons not related to their cancer.

African American men. Several studies show that African American men have much greater chances of developing cancer of the prostate than Caucasians. And Asian men (not those who migrated to the west, but men living in Asia) are very less likely to develop the cancer. Does diet play a role here? We’ll find out later.

Men with prostate cancer history. If your father or brother developed cancer of the prostate, then you’re twice likely to develop the same cancer as well. If this is the case, you need to go for early screening, preferably as you reach 45 years old, so the cancer can be detected and prompt treatment can be given.

Diet high in saturated fats. Several studies have demonstrated the link between cancer of the prostate and diet high in saturated fats. Are you fond of eating in fast foods? Are you a red-meat lover? Then pretty much you’re at a high risk of developing cancer. Even dairy products including milk have been shown to increase prostate cancer risk. On the other hand, studies show that men whose diet are low in fat, and high in fruits and vegetables, have less risk in developing the cancer.

If you noticed, the first three mentioned predisposing risks are things we have no control of. But the last one is actually in the power of your hands. Or should I say your mouth. So how can you change your diet to improve your prostate health? Let’s count the ways.

Number 1: The Often Misunderstood Role of Green Tea
Asian men don’t succumb to cancer of the prostate at anywhere near the rates those in the West do. Which might have you wondering why. It could be something about their diet then, right? Most probably. In fact, what researchers have found out recently is that drinking green tea may play a role in prostate cancer prevention.

Green tea is a staple drink in China where 10-20 cups of green tea per day is the norm. And for thousands of years, green tea extract has been a common ingredient in Chinese traditional medicine. What have the Chinese discovered about green tea that other parts of the world haven’t?

For one, it contains such powerful ingredients, polyphenols mainly, which have been shown to impact the development of prostate cancer. And not only that, green tea can help prevent health concerns like high cholesterol, Alzheimer’s disease, blood clots, obesity, depression, and headaches.

Hmmm. So not only does green tea suppress the growth of these cancer cells, newer studies also suggest green tea possibly plays a part in prostate cancer prevention.

Of course how many guys living in the United States are into drinking green tea every day? Don’t be surprised if next to no one raises his hand.

Yet green tea alone is not enough. So basically you have to determine which foods should be incorporated or eliminated from your diet to keep cancer of the prostate at bay whether you’re at a high risk or not.

Number 2: Omega 3 Fatty Acids
So another good idea is to limit the amount of fat you consume every day. Better yet, eat more fish that contain omega-3 fatty acids such as tuna, mackerel, and salmon.

Number 3: Tomatoes and Grapefruit
Lycopene is another important natural ingredient that has been shown to possibly help prevent cancer of the prostate. Lycopene is found mostly in tomatoes and pink grapefruit. This powerful antioxidant is also better absorbed by the body when the tomatoes you eat are cooked.

Number 4: Cutting Back On Calcium
We mentioned that a diet high in dairy products has been linked to an increased risk of developing prostate cancer right? And that’s because too much of calcium in the body can actually do more harm than good. So limit your calcium intake to 1,500 mg per day. And supplementation likely may not be needed at all if you regularly eat eggs, cheeses or drink milk regularly.

Number 5: Fruits and Veggies
Then there’s the old eat 5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables per day. If that sounds like a lot that’s because it is. But you want to embrace this because it’s healthy and good for you even though such quantities goes way beyond prostate cancer prevention. Now we’re talking about helping to improve your overall health.

While no one knows for certain what causes benign prostatic hyperplasia several million men are treated by physicians for it every year. There are no known risk factors and no known thing that can increase or decrease the chances of getting it. BHP is enlargement of the prostate gland, and is believed to be caused by aging. The number of men who suffer from BHP rises steadily along with the average male life expectancy. Symptoms of BHP include weak urine stream and frequent urination. Some men may experience visible swelling of the prostate area. In any case, a doctor should be consulted for the corrected treatment and to rule out more severe diseases, such as cancer.

Cancer of the prostate is a life threatening disease with requires treatment as well as prostate cancer surgery. While prostate cancer can be treated successfully it’s treated easiest in it’s early stages. As the name suggests, the cancer begins in the prostate glad. Though some studies have pointed to high fat or over production of testosterone intake as potential causes of prostate cancer, there is no definite data to prove these theories. Prostate cancer is the third most terminal cancer to men of any age, and like BHP, the chances of being diagnosed with cancer of the prostate increase with age. Farmers and men who have been exposed to certain chemicals such as cadmium are at a higher risk for developing prostate cancer.

Cancer of the prostate can be treated by laparoscopic prostatectomy. This new and innovative form of surgery is significantly less invasive than open surgery.

What is alternative medicine? How does it differ from traditional medicine? Basically, it is any kind of medicine that does not conform with the scientific principles of western medicine. Western medicine or traditional medicine has long been the basis for treating any illness. Anything from the common cold to the more complex type of cancer, western medicine has an antidote for it. People have been relying on western medicine to cure their ailments. But in our never-ending search to improve our well-being, alternative medicine become more popular with people finding out its benefits. We all have probably heard of someone who cured of their illness because of acupuncture which is a popular form of alternative medicine. Or of those who swear that by taking herbal supplements their lingering illness has been cured. Indeed, alternative medicine has gained roots among certain individuals.

Oriental medicine is a form of alternative medicine that is widely popular. It is perhaps the only form that could be compared to conventional medicine base on its system. Oriental medicine is based on basic theories formed thousands of years ago. Traditional Chinese medicine is a branch of oriental medicine traced back to China. It is the only form of alternative medicine that is widely accepted in the United States. For most parts of Asia, western medicine is considered alternative while oriental medicine is the recognized standard.

Massage is another popular form of alternative medicine. It is commonly used to alleviate aches and pains and as a form of stress relief. The resurgence of many health and fitness centers with a specialized service of massage is proof that indeed this form of alternative medicine is very popular. There are different styles of massage. The more popular one is Swedish massage offered in almost all spas. Other forms are Thai massage, shiatsu and reflexology. For those who want to enjoy the benefits of massage but do not have the time to go to spas, then Optima massage chairs are a good alternative. These chairs are also very effective in relying your aches and pains and can be enjoyed at the comfort in your home. Now isn’t that something worth coming home to. There are different settings and functions available on the Optima massage chair that are worth checking out.

Herbal therapy is fast gaining acceptance in the field of alternative medicine. Although its been suggested that relaying on the dosage given for herbal medicines can be quite risky. Herbal medicine has proven its effective in quite a number of cases but putting too much faith in it could also cause some damage. For example, side effects are not usually declared on the prescription of herbal medicines. It is very much advisable to consult a certified herbalist to make sure you are getting the right dosage. Homeopathy is another although less popular form of alternative medicine. The theory is that like would cure like. For example caffeine which cause alertness could be used to cure sleeplessness in some persons.
